I’ve just had another letter published in the Fenland Citizen, 20th May 2009.
Facilities Perfectly Adequate
Local residents have every right to be outraged at the decision to close the college.
It is a valued local landmark and its destruction would be nothing more than Government vandalism.
Why waste another £70m of taxpayers’ money to rebuild elsewhere when the current facilities are perfectly adequate?
The new building in March will be nothing more than a monsterous white elephant causing traffic congestion at the proposed site.
It offers no economic benefits and neither will the standard of education be enhanced.
Indeed, the college seems to be using the furore as an excuse to close down the child care service early.
The fact that the Learning and Skills Council has made a right “pigs ear” of the funding has turned out to be something of a silver lining.
I’m happy that it curtainly gets the message across.
