I watched Question Time, the BBC1 current affairs programme the other day. Usually, the audience are reasonably deferential to the panel but this week they really showed their anger at the three MPs.
After all, the rules are quite explicit. MP expenses have to be “wholly, necessary and exclusively incurred” as part of their job with no extravagance.
It beggars belief that £18,000 bookcases, scatter cushions, £600 of hanging baskets and all the rest could possibly be considered as necessary to the job of being an MP.
And as for reclaiming £16,000 and £13,000 for non existent mortgages and claiming £2000 a month rent when it only costs £910 like James Purnell or claiming the full cost of your council tax when you get the 50% single occupier discount like Jack Straw, well that’s simply fraud.
If you keep voting for the same people, the same parties, You will get the same sleaze, over and over again……
