Anti gun campaigner Pat Regan has been stabbed to death by her mentally ill grandson.
The mother-of-six started campaigning against gun crime when her son Danny was shot dead in 2002.
I don’t mind people deciding that they themselves don’t want guns or anyother means of self defence, but I hate them interferring with other people who may decide differently.
One thing I am in favour of is people suffering the consequences of their actions because this tends to encourage behaviour that is benifical to both society and more importantly the individual. Mrs Regan didn’t want to be able to defend herself so she was at the mercy of a knife wielding lunetic and paid the price of her own stupidity.
Good.
One less idiot in the world who thinks they should have the right to boss other people around.
It has occurred to me that I need to fully explain my revulsion at Mrs Regan’s “criminals charter”, these anti self defence nutters always proclaim ‘look at the gun violence in America’.
OK lets look at America.
Where in the US do you get the most murders and the most gun crime? In the places with the toughest anti gun laws! And where do you get the least? In the places with the least anti gun law!
Vermont and South Dakota have the lowest murder rates in the United States. Vermont has NO gun laws. In South Dakota there are some gun laws, but you can own machineguns, you can carry a gun openly or concealed, it’s pretty damn sensible! Meanwhile the two most murderous states are District of Columbia, which has a total prohibition on firearms, and Maryland which was given an A- by the Brady Campaign (the most prominent anti-gun lobby group in the US, they give states ‘grades’ on how illiberal their gun laws are) and has some of the strictest gun laws in the US. Washington DC and Chicago have the highest murder rates by city – both with total gun prohibition.
In other words, guns aren’t the cause of America’s high murder rate.
So are anti gun laws responsible for Britain’s low murder rate? Well, no. A contrast is usually drawn between the USA, with a relatively high murder rate, and the United Kingdom with a relatively low murder rate. We are lead to beleive that the difference in this disparity is that the US has liberal gun laws whilst the UK has draconian ones, but this is not the case. Before gun control in Britain, it was probably the safest place in the world, with a very low murder rate. And before gun control in the United States, it was a pretty dangerous place with a high murder rate. Gun control in the US hasn’t helped things – the crime rate in the US only began to fall with legalised abortion* and then with right-to-carry (a gun) legislation in the 80s and 90s. In the UK, anti gun laws certainly hasn’t helped! Gun crime has only risen with increased gun control, with the number of deaths and injuries resulting from the illegal use of firearms (excluding air weapons) increasing ten fold since gun control got really tough back in the 80s, and a three fold increase in the number of deaths and injuries resulting from the illegal use of handguns (excluding air weapons) since the handgun bans of 1997.
*A lot of people are surprised to learn that legalised abortion in the US was far and away the biggest factor in the incredible fall in crime rates during the late 1970s.
Looking at the world, Switzerland has the second lowest murder rate in the world. Every man in Switzerland owns a machinegun, and is required to keep it at home, with ammunition. Switzerland also has probably the most liberal gun laws outside of the United States – the Swiss government actually subsidises private purchases of ammunition and firearms, and provides free shooting ranges in every town. By comparison, most of the most murderous countries in the world, like Russia, Columbia, Brazil and South Africa, all have very tough gun laws.
I’ll leave you with a link, it’s an excellent site authored by an incredible man: http://a-human-right.com/
If Mrs Regan was really serious about getting gun crime reduced and actually *THOUGHT* about the best way to do so, she would have advocated that decent people should have the ability to get the best self defence tools available.
Instead, she wanted decent people to be defenceless against muggers, burglars, rapists and homocidal nutters with mental health problems.

Pat was not an idiot, she worked bloody hard for a lot of people – shame on you
Pat suffered the consequences of her own actions.
I am quite happy for that to happen because any decent society is set up that way.
It is ireelevant weither she worked hard or was lazy or did this for a lot of people or just herself.
My problem with her is that she also wanted and expected *OTHER* peole to also face the consequnces of *HER* actions in calling for gun laws that kept ordinary decent people from the best means of protecting themselve if they so wished.
It is for this reason that she is an cretinous moronic idiot – shame on her (and you too).
As a citizen of the US, I could not agree with you more. Only uneducated idiots think that stict gun laws will reduce gun crime and deaths. It is truly unfortunate that Pat had to suffer the consequences of her own stupidity. But even more unfortunate is those who suffered the same fate as her because of her idiot advocacy.
I posted an article on my blog about my recent trip to a gun show with my son. You might find it interesting. http://www.theconservativecapitalist.blogspot.com. The article is titled, “Gun Toters, Bible Thumpers, Meat Eaters, and other Riff Raff.
Pat worked hard for sure. Hard for fascism.
She wanted to impose her beleifs on others, that people can’t be trusted with tools. Instead she should have focused on the few who really can’t be (IE criminals), rather than treating everone as the same. For every small, weak and law abiding person, who has to walk in fear because they are not allowed to defend themselves, she should feel ashamebd.
The fact she died at the hands of her own family, unable to defend herself, could be seen as ironic. I don’t wish anyone dead, but I certainly won’t moan another fascists influence being lost on the world.
[...] of Pittsburgh. Of course, some people like this bunch of scum with their criminals charter or this cretinous idiot would rather Mrs Smith and those like her be kept defenceless by the govt. I am sure these morons [...]
IT is obvious she died defending her choice not to defend herself. Oh well her followers should be proud of her.
